Help By Spreading the Word

Unique Teaching Resources Advertisement

I hope that you have found some teaching resources on this website that you were able to use with your students, that you found them unique in some way, and they helped you to prepare engaging lesson materials for your students and classroom.

I also hope that you have found some of the different free teaching resources that I share and provide for teachers who visit Unique Teaching Resources. If you appreciate these free resources, and the content of this website, then I would like to ask a favor from you.

Everybody hates traffic, right!? Well, I don't, I love traffic! But I'm not talking about car jams, I referring to website traffic.

I develop all of the resources for this website, build the pages, and maintain it on my own. Unique Teaching Resources is a little guppy in a sea of very big fish that have been there for a long time.

If my little website that I work at on my own is going to sustain itself, I need to build traffic to my website. It takes a long time for the various search engines to find and post information about new and small sites. I know that this is beginning to work for my website, because that is how you found Unique Teaching Resources.

Below I will share with you how these traffic stats work. I began working on my first page in December 2008.

Traffic Stats October 2009

There are two different columns in the chart that shows my traffic statistics: the daily average, and the monthly total.

The orange column shows new people that arrived at my website for the very first time. The yellow column shows the total visits, many of which are teachers who have returned to my site for a repeat visit. The blue column shows the amount of individual pages that were viewed.

As you can see in December, I was likely my ownly visitor! I am pleased that each month my traffic has increased. In the month of September, I had 4,918 new people visit my site. This chart was generated on October 4, so those stats are not yet complete.

Why on earth am I sharing these boring statistics with you?

I began Unique Teaching Resources back in December 2008 as a hobby. I was asked by many of the teachers that I worked with to share some of my teaching resources with them. I thought it would be fun to build a website and a platform from where my friends could get these resources easily on their home computer. That is how Unique Teaching Resources began for me, as a hobby.

I was a bit surprised to find that I actually loved building a website that was all my own, learning the necessary skills, and receiving no outside help to build my pages. Then, I was totally surprised when teachers that did not know me, actually found my website. These lovely teachers wrote me kind words of encouragement and helped boost my confidence that maybe someday my little website could be found by teachers who are searching the Internet for teaching resources for their classroom.

In August 2009, I decided to take the plunge and dive into the sea of websites that offer teaching resources. I have taken a years leave of absense from teaching Grade 5, after 22 years of teaching, to pursue my dream. Once I made this decision, and this huge leap, that is when I started to view my website as a possible business, instead of a hobby. This is why traffic is now important to me.
