Welcome to my Back To School printable worksheets page. This page contains
examples of colorful worksheets that contain school themes and matching
bulletin board display banners.
On this page, you will find blank Back To School worksheets
that contain the following themes: book bags, chalkboards,
apples, buses, and pencils.
It is often difficult to get students enthusiastic about writing
assignments. I have found that my students immediately become more
interested in creative writing activities when their writing worksheets are
unique and colorful.
For final draft writing assignments, when
I give my students colorful printable worksheets to write on, I have found
that they tend to use their best effort and they are more careful
to not make careless spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
I have designed my Back to School creative writing worksheets to have large
borders on them. I cut the white edges off of my students' color
stationery, as I think that they look better displayed on a bulletin
board this way.
My Back To School printable worksheets contain the following teaching resources:

Back to School Book Bag Templates: This is a generic writing template that does not have
a topic selected. You can use these backpack shaped templates for any
topic that you want for a Back to School creative writing assignment.
Many of my Back to School creative writing teaching resources have a topic
selected for them, so I wanted to provide a writing template that can be used
for any topic that you want your students to write about.
The topic that you choose will be a lot more interesting for your students when
they get to write on their own book bag worksheets and color their book bags.
Your bulletin board display of your students' Back to School creative writing assignments
will stand out and capture everyone's attention with this set of teaching resources that
contains student backpacks as the theme.
There are 3 different versions of these backpack templates provided in this Back
To School printable worksheets set for you to choose from.
Since I am also a teacher, I understand that teachers often need to change or adapt
a resource that we find to meet our own needs. I have provided 3 different versions
of these backpack templates in order to help you select the version that would best
suit your own needs.
The first set of book bag templates has 2 writing areas for students. Below is
an example of the first draft worksheet for the first set of book bag teaching resources.

This assignment will not take your students very long to complete. The
book bag templates are on one printable worksheet and they are easy to cut out.
These backpack templates measure 7 inches in width and 10 inches in height.
This quick creative writing assignment will provide you with student work
samples that you can post on your bulletin board immediately during the first week of
school.
You will be able to create a colorful bulletin board display of your students'
work using the bulletin board banner and additional book bag accent pieces that
are also included in this set of teaching resources.
Below is the first book bag template. This template has two writing areas for students.
Students write their names on the ruler and the date is written on the book cover.

The second set of book bag templates has 1 writing area for students.
Below is an example of the printable worksheets for the second set of templates.

All three of the templates in this set of teaching resources
are the same size and shape, the only difference between these sets is in the
writing lines that are on the templates.
Below are examples of second book bag template. This
template has one writing area for students.
The top part of the book bag has been left blank so that students can draw
and color a picture in this area of their backpack.
You could also use this top empty section of the book bag to glue
photographs of your students.

Below is an example of this template with a student photograph glued on it.

I have not colored the top section of these color templates because I wanted
to leave it blank so that students could use this area to draw their own pictures.

Below is the third book bag template that is included in this Back To School printable worksheets
set. These blank book bag templates could be used for a
variety of different purposes.
I have left this template blank, so that you could use it for any idea that you
can think of: student birthdays, labels for student desks or cubbies, labels for centers, etc.
If you want these book bags to be a smaller size, many computers give you an option to
print a smaller version of a document before you select the print option.

To help you in decorating your bulletin board with a student book bag
theme, I have included 6 back pack accent pieces in this teaching resources set.
These accent pieces are also grade specific and contain accent pieces
for Grades 1 - 8. There are 8 separate sets of these book bag accent
pieces for each grade level (Grade 1 - 8).
Although you will only use one set of these grade level resources this
year, be sure to save the entire set of these accent pieces to use for
the future. As teachers, we are often switching the grades that we
teach and you can use this same writing idea with the other grade
levels that you teach in the future.
Chalkboard Writing Templates: Are you looking for a unique idea for a creative writing
assignment and bulletin board display that you can use with your students during
the first week of school?
Are you also looking for a Back to School teaching
resources set that is customized to the grade level that you teach?
This Back To School printable worksheets set has been customized for
Grade 1 though Grade 8. This set of teaching resources contains the following:
This is a generic creative writing template that contains no topic, so
you can choose the topic that you want your students to write about.
This assignment will not take your students very long to complete. The
chalkboard writing templates are on one printable worksheet and they are easy to cut
out.
These chalkboard templates measure 9.5 inches in width and 6.5 inches in height.
This quick creative writing assignment will provide you with student
work samples that you can post on your bulletin board immediately.
The colorful matching bulletin board display banner and additional
chalkboard accent pieces will help you to design an eye catching bulletin board display
during the first week of school.
Below is an example of the Grade 1 first draft creative writing worksheet.
There are 4 apples on this worksheet that contain Grade 1 written on them.

included in this set of Back to School printable worksheets.
Below is an example of the Grade 2 final draft black and white template.
There are 6 pencils and 2 apples on this worksheet that contain Grade 2 written on them.

included in this set of Back to School printable worksheets.
Below is an example of the Grade 3 final draft color chalkboard template.

also included in this set of Back to School printable worksheets.
I know that it takes teachers a lot of valuable time to assemble their bulletin
board displays. Many teachers spend hours of time cutting out large display
letters or making a banner on their own at home on their computers.
This time is valuable and better spent on developing your classroom
curriculum and grading papers, so I have designed a matching 5 page banner
for your Back to School bulletin board display.
If you have access to a laminating machine, you can laminate your banner
so that it is durable and you can use it year after year for bulletin
board displays of these Back to School chalkboard writing templates.
The first banner (shown below) that is included in this set of teaching resources
is a general banner that is not specific to any particular grade level.

This Back to School set of teaching resources
also includes separate banners for Grades 1 - 8.

Grade 3 is written inside the two chalkboards, 4 pencils, and 2 apples.

The banners for Grades 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8 are not shown.
To help you decorate your bulletin board with a colorful chalkboard theme,
I have included 4 chalkboard accent pieces in this set of teaching resources.
These 4 chalkboard accent pieces are also grade specific.
Below are examples of these accent pieces with different grade levels written on them.

I hope that this set of Back To School printable worksheets that I have designed to
be grade level specific helps you to have a writing assignment that is targeted
to the grade level that you teach.
The specific grade level banners and accent pieces are designed to help you
quickly create a colorful bulletin board display that is also targeted for
the grade level that you teach.
Although you will only use one set of these grade level resources this year,
be sure to save the entire set of chalkboard writing templates and banners
to use for the future. As teachers, we are often switching the grades that
we teach and you can use this same creative writing idea with the other grade levels
that you teach in the future.

The above banner is included in this Apple Back To School printable worksheets set.
Apple Shaped Writing Templates: Are you looking for
an apple shaped writing template that will help
you create an eye catching Back to School bulletin board display of
your students' creative writing assignments?
In addition to a Back to School assignment, these apple writing
templates could also be used at other times during the school year for poetry, health, science, or for
a unit on Johnny Appleseed.
These unique apple creative writing templates measure 6.5 inches
in width and 6.5 inches in height.
For creative writing assignments, I believe that it is important
for students to go through the writing process.
For this reason, my students never begin their creative writing
assignments by writing on their final draft templates, instead
they write on first draft worksheets. Then, they edit and revise
their work on their own, with a partner, or in individual writing
conferences with me.
Below is an example of the first draft writing worksheet that is
included in this Back To School printable worksheets set. The writing lines and spaces
on the first draft worksheets match the lines and spaces on the
final draft apple templates.

After students have edited and revised their first drafts, you should
give them their final draft apple templates.
This set is designed to be a flip up book and there is a front
page apple template that contains the student's name, date, title,
and an area to draw a picture.
The second apple template (page 2 of the flip book) is where the students write their assignments.
Students cut out both of their templates and then staple them together to form a flip book.
If you want this to be a longer writing assignment, simply give
your students an additional second template.
These apple templates contain thick black borders, which makes it easy
for students to cut out the apple templates by themselves.

Are you interested in having a one page apple creative writing assignment for your students
to write on instead of a 2 page flip book?
This set of teaching resources also includes a one page apple template.
Below is an example of the first draft worksheet that is used with the one page apple template.
Below is an example of the one page apple writing template in red.

Below are examples of the one page
apple templates in white, green, and yellow.

There are red, green, and yellow apple accent pieces with phrases written on them.

There are plain red, green, and yellow apple accent pieces.

Heidi, I just had to write and let you know that your website has helped me create the most awesome author study of Roald Dahl's books. My students loved completing the big animal shaped projects you designed for The Enormous Crocodile, Esio Trot, and The Giraffe, and the Pelly and Me. For the final project, they had so much fun writing and drawing about the characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory using your Willy Wonka Factory project. Thanks for sharing your scrumdiddlyumptious ideas!
I can honestly say that I have never had such great results from children with a book report as I did using this wanted poster book report activity. I was blown away and the parents who have seen the finished projects were amazed too. Thank you! I will definitely log on again to see your other products and your after sales service is awesome, thanks again. Very much appreciated.
Thank you for all that you do! You are helping all of us to become better educators!
I just wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU for the free downloads that are included in your newsletter Teachers Have Class each month, I look forward to receiving every single issue. I absolutely love your products and what you do. I am so excited to use your resources through my teaching journey. Keep up the awesome work. Happy Holidays!
Your lesson plans for Stellaluna, Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas have saved me so much planning time this year. My Gr. 3 students really enjoyed completing the projects that you designed for each of these books. I was able to create great Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas displays in my classroom this year with their projects. Thanks for sharing your ideas and for saving me time.
My students loved your seasonal powerpoint games for Halloween and Thanksgiving. They thought they were playing a game instead of reviewing grammar ;-) I've already purchased all of your other holiday powerpoint lesson plans. Keep making more of these great activities, more POWER to you Heidi!
Thank you so much for letting me know about the new book report templates. I have been anxiously watching for the house book report project to be posted on your site, so I was excited to be able to purchase it today. It is absolutely adorable. I must tell you that I have received so many compliments from other teachers this year about my students' book reports that I have displayed in our school halls. Thank you again for all of your wonderful ideas....you make my life so much easier as a teacher!
I want to write and tell you that I love the resources that you make and share with us, they have truly been helpful to me and my students. I have been teaching grammar rules in a more exciting way, and I owe it all to you. Your grammar powerpoint lessons have been such a blessing! Thank you very much!
I feel so fortunate to have found your website and I have referred several of my co-workers to your website. Just for the month of January, there were three teachers displaying your book reports. I had the trophy reports, my neighbor to the left had the computer reports, and my neighbor to the right had the birthday cake reports. Thank you so very much for all of your work!
I just wanted to say thank you for the most amazing teaching resources that I have ever come across in my thirty years of teaching. I have used many of your book report sets this year and my students absolutely loved them. What was particularly pleasing was seeing some of my reluctant readers (especially the boys) really wanting to read books and complete the activities. Keep up the great work!
I am in awe of what you have accomplished and created for those of us teaching in the public sector. Good for you for taking time off and self publishing. Your enthusiasm is contagious and your generosity is amazing. I recently provided a reading in-service for the K-5 staff at my school. I listed your website as a "must" to visit.
Thanks you for your expertise, creativity, and heartfelt enthusiasm. You are an inspiration to new and veteran teachers and a model for those of us who have not had the guts to go out on our own. You did it!!! I suggest that you go on the speaking circuit and share your knowledge and creativity at the International Reading Association Meetings and the State Reading Associations.
I'm writing to tell you that my students just finished the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory group projects. They worked so hard, and the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory projects turned out great! We had them to show for student led conferences. The parents were very impressed, and so were many of the other teachers and my principal. They all commented on my students' work and your creative templates. My students had so much fun doing these projects. I also used the multiplication pizza sticker charts. My students loved those as well!! Thank you so much for all of your amazing products.
My students are working on their Charlie and Chocolate Factory projects that I bought on your website. One of my students said how nice the other character wheels were and he said, "Besides this is just fun!" Not bad for a third grade boy!!
Just wanted to say thank you so much for your wonderful site and the excellent resources that you provide at such reasonable prices. I purchased and used your lesson plans for the The Giving Tree with my students, and it was a blast. Thanks again!
Simply stated, I LOVE YOUR BOOK REPORT SETS!!!!!!! I'm interested in purchasing them ALL!!!! I've been looking for something like this for quite some time. My students are so excited about reading this year, and it is all because of your fun projects!
